Reminder: BEAI Continued Education Series – Electrosurgery Study Day

The Electrosurgery Study day is designed to provide an understanding of electrosurgical principles, safety, and clinical applications. The session begins with an overview of Electrosurgery’s history, the physics behind its mechanisms, and the differences between monopolar and bipolar systems. Participants will explore tissue effects, waveform types, and optimal power settings. Safety considerations are thoroughly covered, including risks of burns, insulation failure, and the role of return electrodes. Attendees will also review key standards (IEC 60601-2-2), local guidelines, and audit practices. Clinical applications across surgery, gynaecology, and endoscopy will be discussed, with attention to smoke evacuation and advanced techniques. The afternoon focuses on maintenance, testing, and asset management, emphasising Clinical Engineering’s vital role. A hands-on equipment demonstration allows participants to practice setup, function testing, and troubleshooting.

Date: 3rd July 2025

Time: 10.00am to 3pm

Venue: Tullamore Court Hotel

This Study Day is kindly supported by Irish Hospital Supplies, MedSurgical, Medtronic and Olympus Medical who will share their knowledge, insight and expertise in the area of Electrosurgery.
