Notes from the Chair

Welcome to our Digital Issue of Spectrum Journal, dedicated to our 2025 BEAI Annual Scientific Conference.

It was with great pleasure that I welcomed all of our delegates to the 28th Annual Scientific Conference of the BEAI, held at Limerick Racecourse, Patrickswell. Our theme, “Clinical Engineers: Agents of Transformation,” reflected the evolving and vital role of our profession in shaping the future of healthcare.

For the first time in the conference’s history, we extended the programme to one and a half days. The event opened on Thursday evening with a pre-conference exhibition launch, a dedicated symposium on medical device connectivity, and a networking and social gathering to which all attendees were warmly invited.

This year’s scientific programme was carefully curated to represent both the current landscape and the future direction of biomedical and clinical engineering. Highlights included the Clinical Application of AI, updates on Scan4Safety, in-house medical device manufacturing, student presentations, and much more.

We were honoured to welcome Professor Derek O’Keeffe as our 2025 keynote speaker.

We were also delighted to continue our successful sponsorship model, with a single Gold Sponsor and multiple Silver exhibitors. At the event, delegates had the opportunity to engage with representatives from over 40 leading medical technology companies in the exhibition hall.

We are especially grateful to Rockford Healthcare, our 2025 Gold Sponsor, and we extend sincere thanks to all exhibitors whose continued support makes this event possible.

A great deal of work goes into organising this conference, and I would like to acknowledge this year’s organising committee: Mairead Dennehy, Meabh Smith, John Adlington, Oleg Shrolik, John McGivney, Brian Kearney, Frank Kelly, and Fathima Rinza.

I would also like to recognise the invaluable contribution of our Gold Sponsor for 2025, Rockford Healthcare, and in particular Robert O’Callaghan, Jennifer Mullen, and their team, whose support helped lay the foundations for this year’s event.

Finally, I wish to thank each of our Session Chairpersons, whose work ensured the smooth running of presentations and discussions throughout the day.

In this issue, we include an Executive Report, a Student Report, and feedback on this year’s event. I hope everyone who attended found the event insightful, energising, and inspiring. For those who couldn’t make it, this issue will provide a snapshot of the day’s activities.

I would also like to extend warm New Year greetings to you all. This year, the BEAI will continue to support professional development, promote best practice, and advocate for the vital role our members play in patient safety and healthcare innovation.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement.
