THIS STUDY DAY IS FULL. REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED!

This study day will revise and refresh the basic principles and concepts that underpin the planning and execution of Electrical Safety programmes related to the use of medical equipment in the clinical environment. The content has been specifically developed for Clinical Engineers employed in hospitals or service support companies. This course draws on material developed for the TUS Electrical Safety Module delivered as part of the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Medical Technologies.

The course assumes those attending have a familiarity with common medical equipment and its on-going management. It also assumes that participants have a working understanding of electrical and electronic engineering used in medical equipment. For those new to the topic of electrical safety it will give them a good grounding in the principles and workshops in the afternoon will provide opportunity to get hands on testing of equipment and the opportunity to ask questions in an informal context.

For those familiar with the topic and experienced in implementing electrical safety testing the course will go into more detail as to the origin of problems and some specific special cases.

The programme delivered on the day is augmented by an on-line video, to be watched in advance of the study day, where the discussion of electricity flow through the body is covered. This material is required watching prior to the study day and will be available for registered applicants on the BEAI website.

The course is being delivered by two experienced clinical engineers who have taught this topic on numerous courses and published on the topic. The afternoon’s programme is further supported by experts from two companies (Rigel and Ultramedic) who will provide electrical safety testing equipment and training on its use. The format provides plenty of opportunity for discussion and an exploration of themes with those delivering the material.

The course will be delivered in the Medical Equipment Teaching Lab of TUS Limerick.

Lunch will NOT be provided but full canteen facilities will be open on campus.

Places are limited & will be offered on a first come, first served basis. To register for this study day, please visit here
