Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year

Dear Member,

As the end of 2023 is fast approaching, the BEAI executive would like to take this opportunity to extend our season’s greetings to all and to thank you for your continued support of the Biomedical / Clinical Engineering Association of Ireland (BEAI) throughout 2023.

2023 was not without it challenges. However, with more people joining the profession with a hunger for professional development, we will continue to raise the standards through education and training, networking and sharing, collaboration and partnerships, CPD and career development. There has been a significant evolution within the profession over the past number of years which we continue to respond to through representation, education and career development. The BEAIs mission is to serve and advance the interests of our members and we believe 2024 will present more opportunities for growth for our profession and the members alike.

The 2023 BEAI Annual Scientific Conference in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Cork was a resounding success, attended by representatives from across the health service. We also had the honour of the Minister for Finance in attendance as well as Mr. Dónal Óg Cusack opening the conference. The conference in 2024 will return back to Dublin with the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) being provisionally booked for the first week in October. The size of venue is reflective of the conferences popularity and necessary as attendance grows year on year.

In terms of the lunch-time education series, the BEAI aims to host one session per month and will continue to do so in 2024 with a calendar of events being reviewed at present. We found this to be an excellent platform to share knowledge among peers and we encourage you to participate in these events by either presenting or attending. We were able to host one in-person event in 2023 which coincided with the associations AGM. The study day was on Ultrasound which was very well attended on the day. We would like to thank all attendees and vendors for their support on the day as it proved to be an excellent networking and educational opportunity. We intend to host another in-person event in Q1 2024 to again tie in with the associations AGM.

If you would like to contribute to the support and professional development of Clinical Engineering, then perhaps consider submitting an article to the Spectrum Journal which publishes three hard copy editions per annum. This year we are publishing a post-conference digital edition which should be in your inbox in time for Christmas. To submit an article, please contact spectrum@beai.ie.

We very much look forward to providing services for you in 2024. Should you have any queries or wish to get involved in any capacity with the BEAI, please do not hesitate to contact one of our committee members. Details of which can be found on the BEAI website. Thank you once again for being with us in 2023 and we look forward to even more success next year in 2024!

From everyone at the BEAI, we want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

BEAI Team
